MOS 7th grade artist honored in county-wide competition

May 4, 2015 by DMD

Congratulations to Mother of Sorrows 7th grader Nayeli, who was recognized in April by The Los Angeles County Board of Education as one of the winners of the Los Angeles County Office of Education’s 9th annual Student Art Contest.

The contest was open to students from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Judges selected contest winners based on submissions they received that displayed exceptional merit and outstanding artistic ability. Submissions were scored based on creativity, media and craftsmanship.

Nayeli, who said she was surprised and happy when she learned her artwork was one of the winning entries, is a member of the Mother of Sorrows Art Club. She said she focused on texture and color when she created the painting she submitted to the contest. The painting features a nature scene that includes a winding stream. According to Nayeli, the painting transitions from being in-focus in the foreground to out-of-focus in the background.

Nayeli’s artwork is now on display at The Los Angeles County Office of Education along with the artwork of other contest winners. Way to go, Nayeli!

According to The Los Angeles County Office of Education, the contest not only highlights students’ visual arts talents, but also highlights teachers’ dedication. We send a big thank you to Ms. Stevenson, Mother of Sorrows Art Teacher and Art Club Moderator, who submitted Nayeli’s and other students’ artwork to the competition, and who helps nurture all of our students’ artistic development.
