Extend your mercy towards others, so that there can be no one in need whom you meet without helping. For what hope is there for us if God should withdraw His Mercy from us? - St. Vincent de Paul
This quote from our Founder, St. Vincent de Paul describes succinctly the Mission of the Daughters of Charity. For 384 years the Daughters of Charity along with our collaborators and benefactors have served this mission; seeking out the most abandoned through the ministries of education, health care, social and pastoral services. We are an international community of 19,000 sisters serving in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas.
Mother of Sorrows School has been a part of this mission of service since 1999, when Sister Martha Garcia, D.C. was named principal of the school. With further support from the Daughters of Charity through a co-sponsorship agreement with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Mother of Sorrows School has continued to offer an excellent Catholic education to families in Central Los Angeles who otherwise would not be able to afford one.
In the spirit of our Vincentian founders, St. Vincent de Paul, St. Louise de Marillac, and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Mother of Sorrows School continues to be an inclusive community of faith. A community where parents and teachers can nurture each child’s faith and potential.
Welcome to Mother of Sorrows!
God Bless,
Sr. Adella L. Armentrout, D.C.
Education Councilor, Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul
