Mother of Sorrows Parish History
Bishop John J. Cantwell established Mother of Sorrows Parish in 1923. Father Joseph Loughran was the first pastor, and the church was dedicated in 1926. Monsignor William O’Donnell served as pastor for 31 years and was responsible for starting Mother of Sorrows School, which opened in 1948 and was staffed by The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.
Father Perry Leiker supervised a liturgical renovation during his 12-year pastorate as the church celebrated its 75th anniversary. Father Dario Miranda was named administrator in 1999 and pastor in 2001. In 2011, Father Abel Loera became pastor of Mother of Sorrows Parish.
