Leadership, optimism and spirit show through on girls’ volleyball team

October 9, 2012 by DMD

Mother of Sorrows School’s girls’ volleyball team began its season in early September and has been serving up excitement ever since. The team participates in the CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) league. It has played both home and away games and has a strong record of 2-2. The team also recently participated in the St. Turibius Tournament, in which it qualified for the playoffs by finishing second in its pool.

The volleyball team sports a roster of 18 players who range from 5th graders to 8th graders – some who have been playing for years, and others who hit the court for the first time this season. Miss Karisa Denis, 2nd grade teacher, coaches the girls’ volleyball team.

“This year our team has shown strong leadership, optimism and spirit,” said Miss Denis. “Win or lose, they treat each other with sincerity, respectful encouragement, and compassion. They truly model the Vincentian charism.”

The team has two more games during the regular season, which will wrap up in October. Depending on the team’s final record, it may participate in the CYO playoffs. We wish them well. Go Trojans volleyball!
