Kindergarten has been busy learning about plants and their structures. The kindergartners conducted an experiment with lima beans.
First, the students placed a lima bean along with a folded napkin inside a Zip Lock bag, added water and watched the plant grow! Next, the students used magnifying lenses to observe the changes in their lima beans during a period of two weeks. The students watered their plants and documented, through drawings, their observations on a recording sheet. Finally, the students labeled the plant structures (seed, roots, stem and leaves) on their lima bean plants.
From this experiment, the kindergartners learned about the process that a lima bean undergoes before becoming a full-grown plant. They also learned that not all seeds develop into a plant and that not all plants grow at the same rate. The children were fascinated to see their very own plants change from one day to the next!
