November 25, 2013 by DMD

We invite you to read a few 1st Grade class highlights from Mrs. Ponce, 1st Grade Teacher:

We encourage you to stop and take a look at our academic bulletin in the main hallway. This opportunity will give you a glimpse at the first grade standards, which define what a first grade student should know and be able to do by the time he/she ends first grade.

Science: Students identified parts of a plant and explained their functions. As a result, students went on a trip to Amy’s Farm in the month of October to observe various types of plants that grow in a farm garden and the function of their structure.

Social Studies: Students asked questions (Why are these documents important for our country?) that are relevant to events they encounter in historical documents, such as the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution.

Reading: In alignment with Common Core standards, students drew pictures and summarized a grade-level informational text using key details.

Math: Students tell time to half past the hour using analog and digital clocks.

Religion: Students labeled and explained the use of important objects used during Mass.

Writing: Students focused on a question and answered with detailed sentences.

Grammar: Students identify common nouns in sentences.

Art: Students created symmetrical shapes using different textures.
