Students display understanding of DWP skills

Mother of Sorrows School follows a program entitled “Discipline with Purpose” (or DWP). This program strives to teach our students 15 specific self-discipline skills that will help them throughout their lives. These skills include: 1) Listening, 2) Following Instructions, 3) Asking Questions, 4) Sharing: Time, Space, People and Things, 5) Exhibiting Social Skills, 6) Cooperating with Others, 7) Reasons for Rules, 8) Independently Completing a Task,  9) Exhibiting Leadership, 10) Communicating Effectively, 11) Organizing: Time, Space, People and Things, 12) Resolving Problems, 13) Taking the Initiative in Problem Solving, 14) Distinguishing Fact From Feeling and 15) Sacrificing/Serving Others.

Every three weeks, one student from every class is recognized for exhibiting an understanding of a specific DWP skill through their behavior and actions inside and outside of the classroom. They receive recognition at school mass.

On August 26, the following students were recognized for displaying skill #1 – Listening: Aredays Curiel, Christa Partida, Annabella Trujillo, Priscilla Hidalgo, Kailyn Partida, Jose Sanchez, Arianna Linares, Perla Calderon, Vanessa Pacheco and Cidney Perez

On September 16, the following students were recognized for displaying skill #2 – Following Instructions: Andrea Serrano, Melanie Felix, Madison Alvarez, Delaney Gomez, Jessica Flores, Valeria Cueva Jimenez, Kukim Vazquez Cordova, Melanie Zarco, Alexza Tejeda and Alan Teutla

On October 7, the following students were recognized for displaying skill #7 – Reasons for Rules: Saira Lopez, Michael Cisneros, Juliana Cueva, Kayla Guttierez, Joshua Castro, Matheu Castañeda, Andrew Astorga, Taliya Bernardez, Jocelyn Lopez and Imani Watson

On October 28, the following students were recognized for displaying skill #12 – Resolving Problems: Rain Johnsen, Julian Jauregui, Ethan Martinez, Hetzabel Sanchez, Vanessa Linares, David Avelar, Laylah Ortega, Melanie Zarco, Jocelyn Cobbs and Oscar Bugarin

In November, the following students were recognized for displaying skill #3 – Asking Questions: Anthony Flores, Dahlia Munoz, Lindzay Herrera, Gerardo Tlaseca, Angel Alejandre, Alonzo Smith, Ramon Beltran, Karla Jordan, Joshua Papaqui, Josue Briones

In January, the following students were recognized for displaying skill #4 – Sharing: Briana Plancarte, Melody Enriquez, Izaiah Cabezas, Kalit Pineda, Eduardo Prieto-Guillen, Stephany Rodriguez, Ashley Leiva, Giselle Espino, Nayeli, Emily Manjarrez, Emely Garcia

In February, the following students were recognized for displaying skill #5 – Social Skills: Katherine Calderon, Julio Barajas, Marely Gomez, Rania Ramirez, Eduardo Prieto-Guillen, Aeilani Felix, Hector Manzo, Jose Galan, Taliyah Bernardez, Marvin Bonilla, Tiffany Zarco
